Have you ever clicked on an ad and then were taken to a page asking you to sign-up or purchase a particular product? Chances are you visited a landing page. Landing pages are a strategic marketing tactic you can apply to any business model. But what exactly is a landing page, and how can they be used to improve your marketing efforts?

What’s a Landing Page?

A landing page is a standalone web page that is used for a specific marketing campaign. The goal Landing pages are a great way to drive traffic to your website.is to get users to complete an action. You can be directed to landing pages from emails, google ads, or social media platforms like Facebook. 

It’s important to note that not all landing pages are designed to drive purchases, they can be used for newsletters sign-ups or registration for an event, for example. When a user completes the intended action, this is called a conversion. 

Landing pages are awesome because they are efficient, are proven to generate conversions and lower acquisition costs. So how do you create a great landing page? 

Landing Page Best Practices

Follow these best practices to create an effective landing page. 

  • Have a specific goal: what action are you trying to get the user to make?
  • A great headline and straightforward copy: your headline and copy should be attention-grabbing, to-the-point, and tell the user what the product or service is all about
  • Eye-catching pictures: images should be large and relevant to your product. Did you know brain processes images 60,000 times faster than text?
  • Responsive and fast loading: your landing page should be mobile-friendly and should load within 3-5 seconds to get the most conversions
  • Powerful CTA: your call to action should be a large button with bright contrasting colors to draw users in. The copy should be unique and punchy don't simply use "submit"

Most importantly, keep it simple! Don’t crowd your landing page with unnecessary content that’s not relevant to your goal. Most landing pages have very little content because it distracts the user from completing the call to action.

Landing Pages in Google Analytics

You can get data on how much traffic your landing page is generating in Google Analytics. You can find this by going to Behavior > Site Content > Landing Pages. But keep in mind that Google Analytics counts any entrance page as a "landing page." So make sure to use a unique URL for the landing page you're using for your marketing campaign.
